Deuteronomy 12:8
“You shall not do according to all that we are doing here today, everyone doing whatever is right in his own eyes…”

This was part of Moses’ warning and instruction to the children of Israel, prior to their entering of the Promised Land. It was meant to help establish boundaries or guardrails upon their lives. God’s laws and statutes (His Word) was meant to ground their hearts and minds, so that they would not go astray and drift according to their own desires and feelings when things got tough. Without God’s parameters to foster safety in an unsafe environment, the children of Israel were doomed to fail in the Promised Land. It was not possible for them to succeed without Him. Only when the children of Israel followed God, did life go well for them. And, when they didn’t follow God, doing whatever was right in their own…
