The Crusaders conquered Jerusalem on July 4, 1099. In celebration of the event, they took all of the Jews in Jerusalem (estimates vary from 900-3,000), gathered them in all the main synagogues and burned them down, thereby destroying the Jewish population in Jerusalem.
