The difference between natural and spiritual aren’t always easily discerned. And quite often, it takes time to prove which is which. In 1 Corinthians chapter 3, the true foundation of a redeemed life is described. It’s specifically built on Christ and His teachings, not a variation of them or a “Jesus-plus” system. In the first century, many were attempting to add to, delete from, and make changes to the basic tenants of faith in Christ. Paul called it a “carnal” approach, or a catering to the flesh. Consider:

“Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.” – 1 Corinthians 3:12-13 NKJV
