Content vs. Contentious Spirits


A Necessary Pain

I’ve come to understand that one cannot be in two opposing places at one time, common sense, right? Why is it, then, that we think that we can be in varying contradictory spiritual places simultaneously? I cherish the peace found in God’s presence, but I often forfeit that for a more problematic focus. When my binoculars are set to only pick up what is “wrong” around me, I slowly but certainly step out of God’s presence; therefore, out of His peace. We can never truly escape God’s presence as He is omnipresent; however, our awareness of our proximity to Him decreases, which brings us into a confused, contentious state. We’ve traded our contentment in Christ for contentiousness.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

There are abounding opportunities for us as children of God to choose our juxtaposition…
