This Sunday (Palm Sunday) I preach the sermon at an assisted living facility. Below I have shared my sermon manuscript. Before the sermon there are Scripture readings – Mark 11:1-11; Psalm 118:1-2,19-29; and Philippians 2:5-11 will be read.
Today is Palm Sunday, the day we remember the triumphant entry of Christ into Jerusalem. Palm Sunday began the last week of Christ’s earthly ministry. Five days later, on Friday, Christ would be crucified – and on Sunday his resurrection.
We are all familiar with the events of Palm Sunday and Jesus entering Jerusalem. But I want to really set the scene for you. So that, perhaps, you might understand this well-known passage in a different way. Maybe you can actually imagine being there.
