The Tekoites Pretend To Work
“And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord,” Nehemiah 3:5.
Today’s verse is a lesson in hypocrisy. In Nehemiah 3:5, the original language shows the word for “Lord” as being plural, which would change the translation to lords, or masters. As the wall around Jerusalem was being repaired, the nobles of the Tekoites pretended to be working when the job supervisors came around, but really did not do anything to help the work proceed. These hypocrites liked the idea of appearing to work but were not fully convinced the work was worth their time, energy or resources.
