The Seven Day Celebration
“Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner,” Nehemiah 8:18.
Once Nehemiah assessed the number of people in the city of Jerusalem, he gathered them together for an important reminder of their identity as the children of God. Ezra the scribe stood before the congregants and read the Word of God allowing leaders to explain the Word to the hearers. At hearing the Word of God and realizing they had not been obedient to the will of the God, the people responded with heartfelt worship—lifting their hands and weeping (Nehemiah 8:6).
