Gabe’s feet touched the cobbled path and he felt it. Evil. Like oil on his skin. There was his quarry standing alone on the path. Like she said she would be. Tired of running, she said.
Every bit of the scene screamed trap. Gabe stepped closer.
She raised her head and smiled. He was still twenty feet from her, but he could see the hunger in her eyes.
He paused. She didn’t know who he was. He could read it in her stance, in her gaze. She thought him a mere bounty hunter, an annoyance she was going to end.
“Come to take me in, Gabe?” she sneered and licked her lips.
He smiled. His six wings unfurled behind him and her eyes widened. “I am, Asherah. Will you come quietly?”
