This chapter is about Jehoram’s reign in Judah. Jehoram was the son of Jehoshaphat. He was 32 years old when he began to reign and reigned for 8 years. He was given the kingdom because he was the oldest. He killed all of his brothers and some of the princes of Israel.
He wasn’t like his father, but, like Ahab, he made the high places and led Judah away from the Lord. One of the biggest factors behind this was that his wife was the daughter of Ahab.
The Lord wasn’t willing to destroy the house of David because of the covenant that he made with David. That must have taken serious restraint.
