Grace overflowed (1 Tim. 1:14)

Eugene Finnegan Bible Project

“The grace

Of our Lord

With the faith

And love

That are in Christ Jesus.”

ὑπερεπλεόνασεν δὲ ἡ χάρις τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν μετὰ πίστεωςκαὶ ἀγάπης τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ.

Paul said, “The grace (δὲ ἡ χάρις) of our Lord (τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν) overflowed (ὑπερεπλεόνασεν) with the faith (μετὰ πίστεως) and love (καὶ ἀγάπη) that are in Christ Jesus (τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ).” Only this letter to Timothy used this unique word ὑπερεπλεόνασεν, that means to abound exceedingly or exceedingly abundant. Something changed for Paul. Our Lord’s grace overflowed abundantly within him with the faith and love of Jesus Christ. Love and faith in Jesus Christ changed everything for Paul. He was no longer Saul the persecutor of Jesus Christ, but Paul the believer in Jesus Christ. Are you a believer in Jesus Christ?
