This should not happen (Jas 3:10)

Eugene Finnegan Bible Project

“From the same mouth

Come blessing

And cursing.

My brothers!

This ought not to be so.”

ἐκ τοῦ αὐτοῦ στόματος ἐξέρχεται εὐλογία καὶ κατάρα. οὐ χρή, ἀδελφοί μου, ταῦτα οὕτως γίνεσθαι.

James said, “From the same mouth (ἐκ τοῦ αὐτοῦ στόματος) come (ἐξέρχεται) blessing (εὐλογία) and cursing (καὶ κατάρα). My brothers (ἀδελφοί μου)! This ought not (οὐ χρή) to be so (ταῦτα οὕτως γίνεσθαι).” James continued with this dichotomy. Our very same mouth can bless and curse. He maintained that this should not be the case. We should not be double-tongued, blessing and cursing with the same mouth. Obviously, blessing is the preferred way of using our tongues? Are you a blesser or a curser?
