(10) He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
The Lord gives to us the promise of divine retribution for wrongdoers. In this case, the wrongdoers are the political powers of this world. The wrongdoing is their abuse of the people of God.
The Lord promises that any wrongdoing performed by those in authority will come back upon their head… “He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword.”
The Lord goes a step further explaining that this principle is a motivating force behind the saints continued obedience in the face of such persecution. It is one of the sources of “the patience and the faith of the saints”.
