I recently lectured on Messianic Jewish Theology in the Krister Stendahl room in the Swedish Theological Institute in Jerusalem.
I felt privileged as a Messianic Jew to be in a room named after this giant of New Testament studies on Paul, who argued for a new understanding of the Pharisee from Tarsus who kept Torah and lived as a Jew. Stendahl helped launch the revolution in Pauline studies that gave birth to the New Perspective of Paul, which Jewish and Messianic Jewish scholars such as Mark Nanos, Pamela Eisenbaum, David Rudolph and Mark Kinzer have taken further today. I wondered what he would have made of the modern Messianic movement. Here is a tribute by Franklin Sherman to this wise scholar, ecumenist and man of God.
